Why only act on the reported irregularities in the Duterte administration now?
Actress and activist Agot Isidro gave the rebuke to some senators after blaming them for supposedly letting the present government go unchecked in the past. She has accused the administration for committing plunder especially with the funds related to healthcare during the pandemic.
“Ibang senador jan parang takang-taka kayo sa mga anomalyang nangyayari ngayon. How far this admin used its powers to plunder health funds,” she tweeted on Sept. 8, 2021.
Isidro, a vocal critic of President Duterte, is dismayed that senators are acting on the matter only now since the 2022 elections are approaching.
“You’re to blame because you allowed them to get away with so much early on. If only you had done your duty then. So why now? Kasi eleksyon,” she said.
The Duterte government is under fire for poor handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as cases of infections have skyrocketed to alarming levels. Certain officials are facing a Senate probe for the alleged deficiencies in handling of COVID-19 funds, including alleged overpriced medical supplies, reduced budget for health institutions, and delayed health benefits for medical frontliners.
