The late Social Welfare Secretary Corazon “Dinky” Soliman was small in size but big in heart, according to former Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda.
Lacierda paid tribute to his former colleague in the Cabinet, saying she was the “indefatigable” head of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who rendered genuine service to Filipinos.
Soliman passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, at the age of 68. Both Lacierda and Soliman served as members of the Cabinet during the administration of the late President Benigno Aquino III.
“Dinky was our indefatigable DSWD Secretary. In any calamity, she was there. She ensured the poorest were not left behind thru the CCT program,” Lacierda said.
“She was the smallest member of our Cabinet but the biggest heart among us. Salamat Dinky! Rest now in your little patch of sunflowers,” he said.
Soliman was appointed DSWD Secretary during the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2001. She resigned from the Arroyo Cabinet in 2005 in protest of the “Hello Garci” election fraud scandal.
In 2010, Soliman returned to her old DSWD post following the appointment made by then President Aquino.
