It’s still a free country right?
Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada has disagreed with Ateneo martial law museum’s criticism of television host Toni Gonzaga over her controversial interview with former Senator Bongbong Marcos and its attempt to dictate on what to do with her YouTube program.
Estrada took to Facebook to remind the Ateneo body to respect Gonzaga’s freedom to interview anyone and express her views on her YouTube channel. Instead of forcing its beliefs on the actress, the former senator suggested to the people behind the Ateneo museum to establish their own YouTube program.
“ATENISTA DIN PO AKO!! But I totally DISAGREE with the statements made by the Ateneo Martial Law Museum concerning the interview of Ms. Toni Gonzaga with Bongbong Marcos,” he said on Facebook.
“Sa ilalim ng malayang pamamahayag sa isang demokratikong bansa, kung ano man ang opinyon, suhestiyon, posisyon, pahayag o aksiyon ng isang mamamayan ay dapat respetuhin. Huwag natin itong sikilin para lamang umayon sa kagustuhan natin,” he said.
Gonzaga recently interviewed the son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos on her YouTube program “Toni Talks” but drew flak for supposedly contributing to the Marcos family’s attempt to whitewash the rights abuses during the martial law regime. The Ateneo martial law museum criticized Gonzaga for giving the Marcoses a platform to promote its propaganda and asked her to interview the martial law victims instead.
Estrada defended Gonzaga’s right to do anything with her YouTube channel and told the Ateneo museum not to force its opinions on her.
“Ms. Gonzaga used her own channel so she has every right to invite whoever she wants. She can discuss any topic. She can express her own opinions. Simply put, to each his own! And please don’t force your opinion or stand on certain issues on her,” he said.
Estrada also gave an unsolicited advice to the Ateneo martial museum which has been critical of Gonzaga’s interview with Marcos.
“My advice to those people behind the Ateneo Martial Law Museum – Put up your own youtube channel and invite/interview personalities that can satisfy your beliefs,” he said.
