John Lapus campaigns vs Pacquiao presidential bid: He once called gays ‘worse than animals’

No to a Pacquiao presidency, as far as this comedian is concerned.

Comedian and film director John Lapus is rallying the gay community against voting for Senator Manny Pacquiao in the 2022 presidential elections.

Lapus, in latest post on Twitter, reminded the public that the politiko once branded gays as “worse than animals.” He did not identify Pacquiao in his tweet but was obviously alluding to the latter’s controversial statement against the gay community in 2016.

“Mga bakla! Wag kalimutan, sinabihan tayo nyan ng ‘Masahol pa sa Hayop,'” Lapus tweeted on Sept. 19, 2021.

Lapus’ tweet came after Pacquiao formally announced plans to run for president in next year’s elections. The boxer-turned-politiko will pursue a presidential bid under the PDP Laban ticket.

Pacquiao triggered public outrage after his disparaging comment about gays in 2016. He said it was a matter of common sense that animals have no male-to-male or female-to-female relations. If people are into same-sex relations, he commented that these people are “worse than animals.” Such gay slur cost Pacquiao a contract with Nike.

Pacquiao, a Christian who believes homosexuality is wrong, later apologized for his statement.
