ABS-CBN’s flagship newscast, TV Patrol, will lose two of its most recognizable broadcasters with the impending transfer of Kim Atienza to GMA Network, Politiko has learned.
Atienza’s imminent departure from ABS-CBN comes at the same time as Noli De Castro’s looming exit from the network to run for senator in the 2022 elections.
A source told Politiko that GMA Network offered five shows to Atienza as part of a deal to leave ABS-CBN.
Atienza, the son of Buhay party-list Rep. and former Manila Mayor Lito Atienza, hosts the weather and trivia segment on TV Patrol.
In an interview with the late Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo last year, Atienza declared his loyalty to ABS-CBN even after the network lost its franchise.
“The ABS-CBN ship is still afloat and is very much alive. I shall stay a Kapamilya till its last breath,” Atienza said in the interview published in Lo’s Sept. 1, 2020 Funfare column.
