More than 50% of workforce protected: BI personnel vaccinated vs COVID-19 climbs to 1,875

Almost 2,000 Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel have been vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said.

Morente said in a statement that the BI’s Medical Section has reported that a total of 1,875 of BI personnel got vaccinated.

“This is a good sign, that we have gone beyond the 50% mark in vaccinations. We are endeavoring to inoculate all our personnel, especially those assigned in the frontlines, as our way of protecting the transacting public from this virus,” said Morente.

He disclosed that since the pandemic began that there have been already more than 500 BI personnel who caught the virus including four who died.

“We mourn the loss of our colleagues who succumbed to this virus,” the BI chief said.

“We pray that together we may be able to surpass this unseen adversary that we are facing,” he added.

Morente noted that records show that 200 of those who got infected were posted at the airports, whil, 197 are at the BI main office in Manila.
