The decision of Senator Manny Pacquiao to run for the country’s highest post is his right, according to Malacañang.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the comment after Pacquiao accepted the PDP-Laban nomination to be the party’s presidential candidate in the 2022 polls.
“Karapatan niyang tumakbo sa eleksyon,” Roque said in his virtual presser Monday.
The Palace official, however, said it’s up to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to decide which of the rival factions of the PDP-Laban is legitimate.
“‘Di ko lang alam kung ano ang magiging desisyon ng Comelec kung sino talaga ang pwedeng magdala ng pangalan ng PDP-Laban,” he added.
The PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi earlier nominated Senator Christopher Go and President Rodrigo Duterte as its presidential and vice presidential candidate in upcoming elections.
