Former senator Sergio Osmeña believes Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has the highest chance of winning against Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in the 2022 presidential race among all prospective candidates.
In an interview on One News’ “The Chiefs” Tuesday (Sept. 21), Osmeña confirmed backing Moreno’s candidacy. He said he’s open to supporting Vice President Leni Robredo if she runs for president and improves her survey ranking.
Osmeña was also skeptical of the chances of Senator Panfilo Lacson, who was the first politiko to formally declare his candidacy for president, as well as Senators Richard Gordon and Manny Pacquiao.
“I’m saying Leni is too low in surveys. If she does well in surveys, it would be my pleasure to support her. But right now, I have to support the guy who can defeat Sara,” he said.
“See, if I go for Ping, he’s about 4 percent [in surveys]. Eh ‘di pupulutin kami sa kangkungan niyan. Or Gordon, or Pacquiao,” Osmeña added.
The former senator said he’d rather support Moreno than Duterte, calling the Manila mayor a “pretty good candidate.”
