This was what Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque had to say to a viral video of him castigating a group of medical experts for opposing the government’s decision to ease Covid-19 curbs in the National Capital Region (NCR).
A video obtained by Philippine Daily Inquirer showed Roque screaming at the top of his lungs while addressing a group of doctors who called on the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases to put NCR back to stricter quarantine lockdown.
In a Zoom meeting Tuesday, Roque, also acting as IATF spokesperson, lamented that the physician leaders have never said “anything good about the government response.”
“We are employing an entire government approach to the government. Do not sit there as if you are the ones right. We are trying to achieve total health,” the secretary said with a loud voice.
“Who wants COVID to kill people? Are you saying that only medical frontliners are concerned about the health of the people? We all want to save lives, for crying out loud. No one in government wants a single life lost! No one! How dare you think that we are not considering steps to prevent the loss of lives?” he added.
Roque announced in a Palace briefing Monday that Metro Manila had been downgraded to general community quarantine “with Alert Levels System” until September 30.
In a press statement the following day, the secretary said the capital region will remain under the modified enhanced community quarantine until September 15 “or until the pilot GCQ with Alert Level System is implemented, whichever comes first.”
