Senate has uncovered no evidence of corruption in coronavirus purchases: Duterte

By Prince Golez

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee has failed to produce evidence of corruption in the procurement of Covid-19 supplies, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.

“The simple fact is that the Blue Ribbon Committee has failed to produce anything to prove its accusation of corruption,” Duterte said during his pre-recorded speech late Monday.

He added that even Senator Dick Gordon, the chairperson of the blue ribbon panel, conceded that there was no overpricing in the purchase of medical supplies.

The Commission on Audit also resolved that no funds are lost to corruption in the Department of Health, the Chief Executive said, noting that the state auditor did not detect any malpractices in the procurement of personal protective equipment and other related materials.

Duterte also called on senators participating the inquiry to stop politicking and let the government focus on their task of protecting the country and its citizens against Covid-19.

“The inquiry is being done at the expense of dragging government officials and compromising the government’s efforts against Covid-19 at the time when cases are at all-time high and thousands of our people getting sick and dying,” the President said.

“Nandito, instead of working overtime, nandito si Secretary Galvez; nandito si Secretary Duque; nandito si Director General when they are supposed to do their homework kasi maraming mga, well, questions and doubts about maraming medisina, even the Ivermectin,” he added.
