Speakership in the cards? GMA set for Congress comeback

Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is set to return to the House of Representatives in 2022.

Arroyo’s son, Pampanga Rep. Mikey Arroyo, confirmed that the former President will seek to succeed him.

“I will always pale in comparison to her talent so at her advanced stage in her political career, I feel that yung mga Kapampangan ang magbe-benefit ‘di ba?” he said.

Mikey, however, said his mother has not discussed the possibility of becoming the House Speaker again if she wins next year’s congressional race.

“No that is not in the conversation,” he said.

Arroyo unexpectedly became Speaker in 2018 after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte engineered the ouster of Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez from the post.
