President Rodrigo Duterte assured he has no quarrel with senators except for Blue Ribbon Chairman Dick Gordon.

Duterte said that as long as the senators rein in Gordon’s domineering ways in the committee, he would avoid a head-on collision with the Senate after he threatened to block his Cabinet members from attending the Blue Ribbon probe on medical supply contracts awarded during the pandemic.

“I’d like to address myself to the other senators, it might seem that we are egging for a fight with you. We are not. Ang problema diyan ‘yung Blue Ribbon ang chairman is a despot. He does not allow anybody to answer and he cuts the testimony of even the COA,” said Duterte in a briefing.

“I do not want to ignore the Senate but kung ganoon hindi ninyo maano si Gordon, eh talagang we will… I said it will come to a head and there will be trouble. Because eh tawagin ninyo ulit, paulit-ulit na naman,” he added

Duterte noted that Commission on Audit Chairman Michael Aguinaldo was able to declare clearly and uninterrupted in a House hearing that there was no overpricing or ghost deliveries in the department of Health’s medical supply contracts.

Duterte said Aguinaldo was supposed to deliver the same message during the previous hearings of the Senate Blue Ribbon but he was boorishly interrupted by Gordon who shamelessly cuts off testimony that does not fit with his narrative.

“There was no overpricing which some senators also desperately trying to establish. There was no ghost deliveries as some senators are implying. But itong theories ng mga ano, ng mga senador, ‘yung iba hindi lahat. Kaya sabi ko we do not want to quarrel with you guys, but kung marendahan ninyo ‘yang si Gordon. Otherwise, we will come to ahead. You know what I mean?” said Duterte.

“Noong makita ko na sumosobra na, it’s a power that is being used in a very abusive manner, I, as the head of the executive department, can also just ignore,” he added.

Duterte said he would allow Health Secretary Francisco Duque III t continue attending the Blue Ribbon hearings and he was optimistic the senators would allow him to give his testimony clearly and uninterrupted.

“I would allow him to complete his story. Anyway, naka-testify naman siya sa House. Just to allow Gordon to show more of his stupidity. Kaya ipabalik ko sila, sabihin lang ninyo just tell the plain truth kay Gordon. Kung putul-putulin kayo, eh ‘di ikonek-konek ninyo ulit,” said Duterte.
