The Commission on Audit (COA) has suspended the conduct of fraud or special audits involving politikos running in the 2022 elections.
Resolution No. 2021-024 issued by COA on September 28 suspended the formation of fraud and special audit teams for candidates in the upcoming elections from October 1, 2021 until May 9, 2022. Also covered by the freeze on special audits are party-lists.
COA said it received requests to conduct special audits but expressed concern that these could be used by opponents of the candidates.
“[The] immediate but untimely action on these complaints/requests and appeals/petitions would create a dangerous impression that this Commission is favoring or disfavoring any election candidate,” it said.
