A senator is taking offense at attempts to belittle the capability of a colleague in the Senate.
Reelectionist Senator Sherwin Gatchalian defended Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa from people underestimating his capacity as a presidential contender in the 2022 elections. Gatchalian, in a recent post on Twitter, said Dela Rosa not only has a long track record in the police service but also helped craft laws beneficial to the nation.
“This is very insulting,” Gatchalian tweeted, reacting to an Inquirer.net article titled “PDP- Laban Cusi wing: ‘Bato’ not best presidential bet, but he’s available.”
“I’ve worked with Sen. Bato first hand. His wealth of experience in the police force and the executive branch enabled him to contribute numerous meaningful and effective pieces of legislation for the benefit of the country,” he asid.
Dela Rosa, a former police chief, is the last-minute choice for presidential bet of the PDP-Laban party wing backed by President Duterte. He became the alternative bet after Senator Bong Go declined the party nomination and instead decided to run for vice president.
A party official reported admitted that Dela Rosa was not the best standard bearer of PDP-Laban but he was available to accept the challenge.
Dela Rosa has brushed aside criticisms against his presidential bid, saying he is willing to serve and die for the country.
