Duterte says Senate ‘trying hard’ to look for anti-corruption issues

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte said he supports the call of the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) for the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate the multibillion contracts that the government

entered with Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp.

“We welcome the call of the Philippine College of Physicians that this matter should be immediately given to our courts and the Ombudsman. We have been saying this for the longest time and we all know that the Senate cannot prosecute. Mabuti pa ang mga doktor alam at naintindihan nila,” Duterte said in his pre-recorded speech late Tuesday.

The Chief Executive asked the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which investigates the alleged purchase of overpriced Covid-19 supplies, not to use the Pharmally controversy “in aid of election.”

“Problema kasi sa Senate natin trying hard maghanap ng mga issue na may nangungurakot o kaya may nagkakapera. But up to now, the committee has not really built a case out of the numerous hearings they have conducted,” he also said.

Duterte reiterated that there was no overpricing in the procurement of medical supplies and such was in accordance with the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act.

“We go back now to what has been established many times, walang overpricing, legal ang naging proseso nang pagbili, according to what has been provided by Bayanihan 1. Na-deliver lahat at binayaran nang pagkatapos na-deliver,” he added.
