Two presidential hopefuls have endorsed former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares in the 2022 senatorial elections.
Colmenares has been included in the senatorial slates of Senator Manny Pacquiao as well as labor leader Leody de Guzman. The endorsement from Pacquiao and De Guzman came after Vice President Leni Robredo excluded Colmenares from her senatorial lineup despite initial consultations with Neri’s camp.
In a latest Facebook post, Colmenares thanked Pacquiao for supporting his Senate bid without imposing any condition.
“I wish to thank Sen. Manny Pacquiao, for including me as one of the guest candidates in his senatorial slate. This endorsement and expression of support for me and KMU Chairman Elmer Labog, is a sign that he recognizes the need for candidates in the Senate that will push for the legislative agenda of workers, farmers and the marginalized sectors in our country today,” he said on Facebook.
“The recognition and support of a presidential candidate, like Sen. Pacquiao, is very important for candidates like me who rely on the support of ordinary Filipinos in our campaign. We value such unconditional endorsement,” he said.
Colmenares is also grateful for De Guzman’s endorsement of his senatorial candidacy next year. The two are known advocates of the protection of labor rights in the country.
“I would also like to express my gratitude to labor leader Ka Leody de Guzman for including me in his senatorial slate for his presidential run in 2022. Ka Leody and I were senatorial candidates of Labor Win in 2019, and we fought hard against contractualization and violations of workers right,” he said.
Colmenares said he was glad that De Guzman considered him and Labor as senatorial contenders “who carry the interest of the workers in our country and deserving of the support of the workers and the people.”
He welcomed the inclusion of “pro-people” senatorial bets in the lineup of these presidential hopefuls.
“While we continue to push for the unification of the opposition in the country to defeat the efforts of Duterte and Marcos to return to Malacañang in 2022, the inclusion of pro-people candidates in the senatorial slates of different presidential candidates is certainly a very positive development,” he said.

Colmenares earlier said former Antonio Trillanes IV posed objection to his inclusion in Robredo’s senatorial slate. He said he was not given a chance to sit down with Robredo to discuss such concern.
Trillanes came out with a statement criticizing Makabayan bloc for insisting on Colmenares’ inclusion in Robredo’s Senate lineup even the group supposedly backed the presidential run of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno during consultations with opposition coalition 1Sambayan.
