Manila Mayor Isko Moreno wants an “exclusive” senatorial slate with candidates who will not back any other presidential aspirant except him, Aksyon Demokratiko chairperson Ernest Ramel said.
In an interview on One News’ “The Chiefs” Friday (October 15), Ramel said there’s a slim chance that the party will accommodate guest senatorial candidates like Moreno’s rivals have.
Three senatorial aspirants are currently running under the ticket of Moreno and physician Willie Ong: Samira Gutoc, Carl Balita and Jopet Sison.
“I don’t wanna categorically say that we won’t accept guest candidates or close our door to possible candidates that will also be part of the senatorial lineup. But earlier we already discussed this and what we wanted is that if you really are supportive of Mayor Isko Moreno, then you should stick with him,” Ramel said.
“We don’t want a senatorial candidate who’s in this lineup or that lineup, or going to a stage with this presidential candidate and then next in a stage with a presidential candidate,” he added.
Ramel said Aksyon Demokratiko would rather have a “lean and mean” senatorial lineup with candidates who are “exclusive to us and nobody shares.”
Balita is a political neophyte while Gutoc and Sison lost the 2019 senatorial and Quezon City vice mayoralty races, respectively.
The senatorial slates of Vice President Leni Robredo, and Senators Manny Pacquiao and Panfilo Lacson feature senatorial aspirants who are also included in the lineup of their rivals.
The guest candidates include: Senators Richard Gordon, Juan Miguel Zubiri and Joel Villanueva, as well as former Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero.
