DOH ‘studying’ UK’s inclusion in ‘red list’ following rise of delta plus subvariant

By Prince Golez

The Philippine government is studying the inclusion of the United Kingdom in its “red” list or classified as high risk for Covid-19 amid a sub-lineage of the delta variant that is expanding in England, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

“Pinag-aaralan po natin iyan,” DOH Spokesperson Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a Laging Handa public briefing Saturday.

Vergeire said changes to entry restrictions for countries and territories are being done on a weekly basis.

“Ang assessment naman natin for countries para ma-tag siya kung red, yellow or green siya, every week naman po iyan assessment din. So, sa ngayon kasama po iyan sa pinag-aaralan natin pati na rin iyong ibang bansang tumataas ang mga kaso ngayon,” according to her.

“Magri-report po tayo sa (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) regarding this at pag-uusapan kung kailangan natin ng stricter control ng border natin for these countries. So, kailangan nating pag-aralang maigi, kasi hindi pa nga po variant of concern ito, ito po ay pinag-aaralan pa rin. But of course in anticipation, kasama na po iyan sa mga recommendations natin kung saka-sakali,” she added.

Romania is the only country that has been tagged as high risk for Covid-19. All passengers, except for returning Filipinos, are not allowed to enter the Philippines.
