President Rodrigo Duterte thanked the Development Budget Coordination Committee for granting P1 billion in fuel subsidy to 178,000 bonafide public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers, Malacañang said Tuesday.
The P1-billion fuel subsidies aim to offset recent oil price increases, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
“Nagpapasalamat po ang ating Presidente Rodrigo Roa Duterte sa mga miyembro ng Development Budget Coordination Committee para sa kanilang napapanahong aksyon na mag provide ng cash grants sa mga bonafide at qualified public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers,” Roque said during his televised briefing.
“Kumpyansa kami na maipapamahagi sa nalalabing buwan ng taon ang 1 billion fuel subsidy sa ilalim ng Pantawid Pasada Program ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ng Department of Transportation,” he added.
Roque said the LandBank will distribute the cash cards to PUV drivers starting next month.
“This underscores our commitment to cushion the impact of the oil price hikes to the transportation sector. Hindi man natin maiwasan ang pagtaas ng presyo ng gasolina at langis, eh iniibsan naman natin ang kahirapan lalung-lalo na ‘yung naghahanap-buhay sa sektor ng transportasyon,” the secretary also said.
