Malacañang on Tuesday said it is “closely monitoring” developments in relation to tropical storm “Maring,” international name Kompasu.

“The Palace is closely monitoring the ongoing operations for Tropical Storm Maring as it continues to move away from extreme Northern Luzon,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

Roque assured the public that all requests for rescue and assistance are being acted upon by all relevant agencies.

“Support from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine National Police and the Bureau of Fire Protection are likewise mobilized and deployed,” according to him.

The secretary noted that a total of 465 families or 1,585 individuals in Regions 2 and 8 have been pre-emptively evacuated, as of 6 a.m. of October 12.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), he added, has more than P128 million in standby funds and P219-millon worth of stockpiles for relief operations.

“Power and water supply restoration and clearing operations of roads are ongoing in affected areas, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council,” said Roque.

He likewise urged the public to continue to take precautionary measures, observe minimum public health standards, and cooperate with their respective local authorities in case of an evacuation.
