Ka Leody takes swipe at Isko: Batang Tondo with P70M net worth neglecting plight of contractual workers

Presidential aspirant Leody de Guzman has thrown a major shade at Mayor Isko Moreno for stating the job security of contractual workers will not be among his immediate priorities if he wins the presidency.

De Guzman, in a series of tweets, is dismayed that the “batang Tondo” who reported P70 million in wealth, has forgotten about the plight of the contractual workers.

Mayor Isko, one of the presidential contenders in the 2022 elections, was a garbage collector from Tondo before rising to become an actor and public servant. He recently reported his net worth amounted to around P70 million.

De Guzman, a labor leader, has promised to protect and uphold the rights and welfare of the country’s workforce. Workers must be treated with dignity and fairness, he said.

Mayor Isko earlier spoke before workers in Pampanga and declared that labor contractualization would be the “least” of his problems. He would rather focus on generating job opportunities for Filipinos so they can start earning a decent living.

If elected president, De Guzman’s first priority is to implement “a labor first policy” in government. His proposed labor policy seeks to end the unfair practice of contractualization, pursue job creation, and fight for a P750 national minimum wage.

De Guzman also plans to ask Congress to harmonize labor-related laws and remove any loopholes to align with his planned labor first policy.
