Duterte for senator? Quiboloy says Rody may become next Senate president, blue ribbon panel chair

From President to Senate President?

Pastor Apollo Quiboloy is optimistic that President Duterte will win as senator if he decides to join the Senate race next year. He said Duterte may even rise to become the next Senate President if elected as member of the Upper Chamber.

A faction of the PDP-Laban party is trying to convince Duterte to run for senator after he withdrew from the vice presidential elections next year. Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, head of the party wing, said Duterte has not turned down their proposal and is “thinking hard” about his next move. Duterte previously said he will retire from politics when he steps down from Malacañang next year.

“Well, nasa sa Pangulo iyon kung mag re-retire siya o magpapatuloy siya. Kung tatanggapin niya ang pagiging senador, siguradong mananalo siya. Number one,” Quiboloy said on Facebook.

“Baka maging Senate President pa siya at maging member ng Blue Ribbon Committee. Siya naman ngayon ang gigisa sa kanila,” he said.

Quiboloy, a religious adviser of the President, said Duterte’s legacy remains intact regardless of his 2022 political plans. “Nasa Pangulo na iyon. Total ang legacy niya naririyan na. Hindi mabubura ang legacy ng ating Pangulo,” he said.

Duterte earlier spewed insults at Senator Dick Gordon, head of the Senate blue ribbon panel, over the probe on the government’s alleged overpriced pandemic supplies last year from Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp.

He has prohibited his Cabinet members from attending future Senate inquiries without his consent. He said he could not allow blatant disrespect of resource persons at the ongoing hearing of the Senate blue ribbon committee. “Gordon, you are not God and you cannot play God,” he said.
