Senator Panfilo Lacson is reluctant to amend the 1987 Constitution to relax restrictions on foreign investments over fears that the political provisions will be touched.
Lacson likened charter change (Cha Cha) attempts to opening the faucet at the “Meet the Presidentiables” forum Saturday (October 30).
“I have my own reservations doon sa charter change or sa amendment ng charter. Why? Because it’s like a gripo. Once you open it, hindi mo na alam ilang amount ng tubig ang lalabas diyan,” he said.
“It’s easy to say we will only touch the economic provisions, pero pag nandyan na, other provisions, particularly political provisions that would include extension of terms, of office of so many legislators and even other elective officials. Palagay ko yung mga kababayan natin ayaw nito,” the senator added.
Lacson said Congress can still work on easing restrictions on foreign investments by introducing amendments to the Foreign Investments Act (FIA).
