The national government is studying the proposal to suspend fuel excise tax, Malacañang said Monday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque issued the statement after transport groups and other sectors urged the government to temporarily suspend fuel excise tax while some were pushing for fuel subsidies to cushion the impacts of the price hikes.
“As we speak, pinagpupulungan itong bagay na ito,” Roque said in his virtual presser.
“Kinukonsidera ang parehong proposal. So, the government is heeding and we are evaluating,” he added.
Earlier, the Department of Finance said any suspension of the imposition of excise taxes may result in a “substantial revenue loss” of up to P131.4 billion in 2022.
