Sara camp denies Hugpong endorsing Bongbong’s presidential run

Hold your horses.

The camp of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has issued a clarification about her recent meeting with presidential aspirant former Senator Bongbong Marcos. Jefry Tupas, chief of Davao City information office, denied reports that the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) already endorsed the presidential bid of Marcos.

The two politikos met in Cebu last weekend, fueling talk about Mayor Sara’s possible presidential run. Mayor Sara however appeared to be reluctant to seek the presidency and instead told local reporters that her meeting with Marcos was limited to discussions on how HNP in Davao region can help his presidential bid next year. “The earlier news by Cebu Daily News/Inquirer about HNP endorsing BBM was incorrect. This ABS-CBN version is the correct version of the story. FYI. Thanks!” Tupas wrote on Facebook.

The latest clarification was issued hours before the mayor held a meeting with another presidential contender, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa at the Davao City hall. Dela Rosa, the last-minute bet fielded by the PDP-Laban faction backed by President Duterte, earlier said he was willing to step aside if Mayor Sara decides to run for president in the 2022 elections. Political parties have until mid-November to deploy any substitute candidates for the upcoming elections.
