Should Sara Duterte be Marcos Jr’s No. 2? Presidential daughter’s supporters divided

Supporters of Presidential daughter Sara Duterte are sharply divided on whether she should agree to be the running mate of presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Weh ‘di nga? Imee claims Marcos Jr. ‘not really ready’ but Sara Duterte pushed him to run for president

A Politiko source said a faction of Duterte’s supporters want her to be the second banana of Marcos considering that she pushed him to gun for the presidency (as claimed by Senator Imee Marcos) after she decided to file for re-election as Davao City mayor in the 2022 elections.

“May nag-guilt trip sa kanya to agree to be Marcos’ VP… ang tagal ng umaasa si Marcos sa kanya,” the source said.

But another faction from Duterte’s camp believes the only post worth running for in 2022 outside Davao City was the presidency.

Bato willing to give way to Sara ‘the most winnable’ in 2022: ‘Yung eagle of the south pwedeng pumatong sa bato para mag-takeoff’

This faction said being Marcos’ running mate would only benefit the losing vice presidential bet of 2016 who needs Duterte to boost his votes in Visayas and Mindanao.

This faction points out that Duterte has been the consistent frontrunner of presidential preference polls before the deadline for filing of certificates of candidacy lapsed on October 8.

May pag-asa pa! Bato optimistic Sara will consider 2022 run under PDP-Laban or Lakas-CMD

The source said Duterte has better odds of winning as president rather than as vice president with the No. 2 race currently dominated by Senate President Tito Sotto in the pre-election surveys.

“Marcos lang makikinabang diyan, kaya kung ano-ano na lang pinapaikot ngayon ng kampo nila na ‘di mo naman nairing kay Sara. Sure win naman si Sara sa mayor. Obvious rin na lamang siya sa president. Pero bulag
sila sila sa VP kasi wala silang survey sa VP tapos pinagdedesisyon nila siya agad agad,” said the source.

Aside from Marcos, last-minute presidential candidate Bato Dela Rosa believes there is a chance Duterte may change her mind before the November 15 deadline for the substitution of party candidates.

A major factor in Duterte’s decision is the political move of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, who has kept his 2022 cards close to his chest. The ruling Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan has recently announced its plan to shake up its team with the President running for VP and his former aide, Senator Bong Go, running for president.

Both father and daughter have agreed that only one of them would run for a national position in the 2022 elections.
