President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday called the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearings on the government’s purchase of Covid-19 supplies “a political circus,” saying that the investigation has become “too much to bear and tolerate.”

During his taped public address, Duterte lamented that senators do not even listen to the invited resource persons.

“Government officials have answered questions of the Senate panel throughout all the hearings, sufficiently, consistently and repeatedly. Now they are made to attend for hours without being questioned. Doon ako pumalag,” according to him.

“Klarung-klarong sinasabotahe lang ninyo ang gobyerno. Paulit-ulit pa rin ang tanong kahit paulit-ulit ang sagot. Dahil hindi pumasok sa script nila, ayaw nilang makinig at ayaw nilang tanggapin,” he added.

Earlier, Duterte barred his Cabinet secretaries from attending the committee hearings and urged them to “focus all their time and effort on the implementation of measures to address the current State of Calamity on account of Covid-19, and carrying out their other functions.”
