Tuliro pa rin sila hanggang ngayon’: Bato Dela Rosa admits he, his family are in shock over presidential bid

Even Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa is in disbelief that he will be running for president in 2022 under PDP-Laban.

In an interview on dWIZ radio Saturday (October 9), Dela Rosa admitted he was fielded by PDP-Laban as its standard bearer at the last minute.

“Although sa mahaba-habang panahon na isa tayo sa ikino-consider, but the decision talaga came out yesterday, 3 p.m. tinawagan ako mag-file ng COC (certificate of candidacy),” he said.

Dela Rosa said he and Senators Bong Go and Francis Tolentino were considered by PDP-Laban to be its presidential candidate. The ruling party, however, ultimately decided to nominate him for the presidency.

Asked if his family has “all out support” for his candidacy, Dela Rosa said: ‘Di pa sila nakapag-adjust. Tuliro pa rin sila hanggang ngayon.”

Dela Rosa is widely seen as a placeholder as political parties are allowed to substitute candidates until November 15 provided that the new aspirant belongs to the same party.

However, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the frontrunner in voter preference surveys, has yet to change her mind about seeking reelection in 2022.

The former Philippine National Police chief said he’s ready to give way to Sara if the mayor decides to become PDP-Laban’s substitute presidential candidate.

“By all means, maggi-give way ako. Decision ito ng partido,” he said.

In the meantime, Dela Rosa said he expects PDP-Laban to help his campaign, especially when it comes to finances.

“Ako naman buo ang loob ko na tatakbo bilang pangulo. Alam ko naman andyan ang makinarya ng present admin, tutulungan tayo. Sana di nila ako papabayaan,” he said.
