Kiko who?
Senate President Tito Sotto is not the least bit worried about his rivalry against Senator Francis Pangilinan for the vice presidency in 2022.
Sotto brushed aside Pangilinan’s decision to compete against him in the VP race, saying it was part of politics.
The senator, running mate of presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo Lacson, instead admitted he would be affected if his best friends Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon won’t support his vice presidential bid. Tito, Vic and Joey form the popular comic triumvirate in local showbiz.
Pangilinan, running mate of Vice President Leni Robredo, is married to megastar Sharon Cuneta, niece of Sotto. Sotto’s wife, Helen Gamboa, is the sister of Cuneta’s late mother Elaine. The Sotto couple embraced niece Sharon like a daughter.
“Well, to each his own,” Sotto said during an interview over ANC’s Headstart when host Karen Davila asked about his view on running against Pangilinan despite their family ties.
Asked if he doesn’t mind relatives supporting other poll aspirants, Sotto said: “It does not at all.”
“I would be bothered if it is Vic Sotto or Joey de Leon,” he said, laughing.
Sotto also respected his niece Paulina Sotto has endorsed Robredo in next year’s presidential polls.
Paulina is the daughter of Vic Sotto.
The senator accepted that elections usually divided families, saying people will either support or not support candidates regardless of family relations.
“Kung sino man iniindorso ng kahit sino, okay lang yun because there are also other relatives of other candidates that are endorsing other candidates so I think it’s part of politics,” he said.
Sotto has remained the frontrunner in the vice presidential race based on the latest survey results.
