Duterte vs Duterte: Rody to face off with Sara in VP race

A face off between President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, is shaping up for the 2022 elections instead of the Duterte-Duterte tandem that some supporters have been pushing for.

Sara pulled off a major shocker Saturday (November 13) by filing her certificate of candidacy for vice president under Lakas-CMD through a representative. She substituted for Lyle Uy, whom the party fielded as a placeholder last month.

Hours after Sara formalized her candidacy, her father arrived at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Manila.

While the elder Duterte did not file his COC for any position, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the President will be running for vice president.

Andanar said Duterte will return to the Comelec main office on November 15 to formalize his candidacy.

Meanwhile, Senator Bong Go has abandoned his vice presidential bid and will now be running for president under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, who was fielded by PDP-Laban as its standard bearer, has withdrawn his COC for president.

Sara previously thumbed down the possibility of running for president if her father will seek the vice presidency, saying it will not be good to have two of them occupying the top two elective posts in the country.
