Eat brown rice more, other healthy rice varieties — Villar

Maybe it’s time to eat rice varieties that can be nutritious and flavorsome other than the usual white rice.

Senator Cynthia Villar is encouraging Filipinos to buy local rice and consider varieties that offer great health benefits and nutrition.

Villar made a pitch for the consumption of locally produced healthy rice varieties while joining the observance of the National Rice Awareness Month this month. The senator, an advocate of development and protection of local agriculture, endorsed this month’s theme to be “RICEponsibly healthy.”

“Ang Nobyembre ay National Rice Awareness Month 🌾 Ako ay nakikiisa sa pagdiriwang ng #NRAM 2021 na may temang “Be RICEponsibly Healthy,’” she said on Facebook.

🌾 Buy local rice
🌾 Do not waste rice,” she said.

She also urged people to find time to thank local farmers whenever they consume rice.

“If you have rice to eat, #thankafarmer! 🍚,” she added.

In 2017, Villar triggered a social media firestorm after she was supposedly seeking a ban on unlimited rice servings in restaurants. She clarified that she was not pursuing a law banning unli-rice. She explained she merely raised concern that eating too much rice is one of the main causes of high blood sugar that leads to diabetes.
