Abala sa kampanya: Robredo doesn’t care if Duterte runs for VP or senator

Vice President Leni Robredo has shrugged off the possible candidacy of President Rodrigo Duterte for vice president or senator in 2022, saying she’s focused on her own campaign for president.

Robredo told reporters Saturday (November 6) that the decision to seek another elective post is up to Duterte and his allies.

“Desisyon kasi nila iyon, eh. Kami, focused kami sa amin. Hindi ko naman papakialaman iyong desisyon ng iba. Kung desisyon niya na humabol siya sa senatorial run, nasa kaniya iyon,” she said at the sidelines of her visit to Murcia, Negros Occidental.

The camp of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is reportedly hoping to get Duterte as running mate. Malacañang, meanwhile, said earlier this week that the President is considering running for senator.

Robredo said she wants the law on substitution of candidates revisited so it will not be abused. Some politikos who filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) last month are perceived to be placeholders as political parties and powers-that-be negotiate their plans for the 2022 elections.

“Kapag walang kalaban, isa-substitute ng ibang—para sa akin, panlilinlang iyon sa voters, eh. So sa akin, napapanahon na i-revisit talaga iyong batas,” the Vice President said.
