Establishments in areas under alert levels 2 and 3 can require their employees and customers to wear face shields, according to Malacañang.
Acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles made the statement when asked about the possibility of reimposing the mandatory face shield policy amid concerns of the newly identified Omicron variant of coronavirus.
“Based on our latest IATF resolutions, employers and establishments may require face shields for the protection of customers, or their clientele, or their employees. So right now, the rule is, for alert level 2,” Nograles said in an interview with ANC’s Headstart Wednesday.
“In healthcare settings, mandatory ‘yan. But right now we only have Alert Level 2 and Alert Level 3 in the Philippines, currently, so ‘pag healthcare settings required. For employers and establishments, it’s up to them to require,” he added.
Nograles meanwhile said the national government continues to monitor developments related to the new Covid-19 variant, which was first detected in southern Africa.
The highly mutated form of the virus has also spread to North America, Australia, Europe, and Hong Kong.
