Guevarra seeks inclusion of inmates on National Vaccination Days

By James Hernandez

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Monday (Nov. 22) he will push for the inclusion of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the upcoming National Vaccination Days.

“The DOJ will request the National Task Force Against COVID-19 headed by Sec. [Carlito] Galvez to include all PDLs in our prison facilities throughout the country in the massive vaccination drive scheduled on Nov. 29-Dec.1, 2021,” he said.

During the National Vaccination Days, qualified individuals will be allowed to walk in to vaccination sites without making appointments.

“I understand that we have millions of doses available for this big event, so this is the opportune time to consider the health of our PDLs who are at risk of infection due to prison overcrowding,” Guevarra stated.

The BuCor has already revealed that as of Nov. 9 there have been 17,295 PDLs from its various prisons have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

This is 35.52 of the total inmate population of the BuCor.
