Let Marcos rest in peace.
Senatorial aspirant Robin Padilla has blasted people seeking the removal of the late President Ferdinand Marcos from the heroes’ cemetery, telling them to move one especially since his burial has already been upheld by the Supreme Court.
Padilla is fuming after reading news reports that some groups remained opposed to the burial of Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani five years ago. Another senatorial bet, rights lawyer Chel Diokno, claimed that hero’s burial of Marcos should never have happened.
But according to Padilla, any proposed transfer of the former president’s remains out of the heroes’ cemetery would wrong and heartless.
In a recent Facebook live video, he insisted the court decision allowing the hero’s burial of Marcos should be respected. Marcos deserved to be buried there since he was a former president and a war hero, he argued.
“Ganyan na ba talaga kayo ka-walang pusong tao? Wow,” Robin asked the opponents of Marcos.
“Nailibing na ‘yung presidente ng Pilipinas na war hero sa Libingan ng mga Bayani, may problema pa kayo doon. Ano problema ninyo doon? Eh karapatan niya ‘yun. Lahat ng sundalo puwedeng ilibing doon. Ano ‘yun papahukay ninyo? aba, isa ako sa hindi papayag diyan,” he said.
Padilla said people should just let Marcos rest in peace and not use the former leader in politicking. He also told poll aspirants critical of Marcos “move on” so they can better serve the nation.
“Saradong usapan na ‘yan. Alisin natin ang politika dito,” he said.
“Patay na ‘yung tao. Nailibing na, respetuhin natin. Huwag na natin gamitin sa politika. Pambihira kayo,” he said. “Hindi pa kayo naka-move on, paano kayo magsisilbi sa bayan kung puro kayo hinanakit?”
If some groups move to take Marcos out of the heroes’ plot, Padilla vowed to confront them.
“Magkakaproblema tayo diyan. Kinikilala ko si Ninoy Aquino, kinikilala ko yan, pero huwag ninyong sasagasaan ang pagkilala ko kay Apo Lakay,” he said.
Marcos, ousted from power via EDSA people power revolution in 1986, was buried at the heroes’ cemetery on November 18, 2016 despite outrage and protests from opponents. Five years later, many are still angered by hero’s burial of Marcos that was kept under wraps by the government.
If elected next year, the presidential tandem of Leody de Guzman and Walden Bello promised to reverse President Duterte’s decision allowing the Marcos burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
