‘No matter how you look at it… parang namimili ka ng boto’: Isko Moreno’s camp hits Pacquiao for giving away cash

The camp of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has slammed Senator Manny Pacquiao for giving away cash as he goes around the country to woo voters.

Moreno’s campaign manager, Lito Banayo, said Pacquiao’s distribution of money gives the impression that he’s buying votes.

“Kung sariling pera niya ‘yung binibigay niya eh wala naman tayong magawa, that’s his choice. Kaya lang ‘di natin maalis ‘yung no matter how you look at it, the optics show na parang namimili ka ng boto,” he said on One News’ “Sa Totoo Lang” on November 2.

Banayo said giving away cash is an insult to voters, especially if the politiko who’s doing it is running for president or vice president.

“’Wag naman tayo sigurong magtanga-tangahan na parang nagbibigay before the campaign period na hindi umaasa ng kapalit. It’s an insult to the Filipino voter na namimigay ka ng pera, pinapakita mo pa, pinangangalandakan mo pa sa tao na nagbibigay ka ng pera,” he said.

Pacquiao gave away cash and grocery items when he visited Batangas, Benguet, Pangasinan and Cebu in October, shortly after filing his candidacy for president.

The senator has defended the gesture, saying he has been helping others since 2002, before he entered politics. He also said he intends to continue giving away cash.
