Palace not threatened by Marcos-Duterte ‘UniTeam’: That’s a political exercise

By Prince Golez

Malacañang does not seem worried about the alliance supporting the tandem of former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio in the May 2022 elections.

In a virtual presser Friday, acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said political parties may agree to work together, provided that it’s “within the parameters of our election laws.”

Nograles was reacting to the move of Marcos Jr., Duterte-Carpio, Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel Arroyo, and former Senator Jinggoy Estrada – all sons and daughter of past and present presidents – to join forces and form the UniTeam Alliance.

“That’s a political exercise. Parties are free to do what they think they should do,” the Cabinet Secretary also said.

Marcos Jr. is running for the country’s top post, while Duterte-Carpio, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, is seeking the vice presidency.

Duterte, on one hand, has endorsed his longtime aide, Senator Christopher Go, to become the next president.
