Quiapo Church suspends 2022 Traslacion

The Quiapo Church in Manila has decided to suspend January next year procession of the Black Nazarene due to the continuing COVID-19 virus pandemic.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said on Saturday (Nov. 27) Quiapo Church’s parochial vicar Fr. Douglas Badong himself made the announcement.

“As long as the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) doesn’t allow it, we will not be able to hold a procession,” Badong said.

The CBCP said that the decision was made following consultations church parish leaders and Manila local government officials.

This will be the second consecutive year that the “Traslacion” will be suspended because of COVID-19.

Despite this, a motorcade in celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene will instead be made in select areas in Manila.

A replica of the black Jesus will also be visiting some provinces and masses will be held.
