President Rodrigo Duterte called on the public on Monday to pray that the new omicron Covid variant, believed to be highly transmissible, will not reach the country.
During his taped public address, Duterte said the omicron variant has been detected in several countries such as Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, and Germany among others.
“I am very happy na bumababa na talaga (ang Covid-19 cases), duma-dive na. That’s a miracle because other countries are still reeling from the effect, parang nagkaroon sila ng problema sa omicron,” according to the President.
“So, tayo, we are not hoping for the best but we pray to God that it will not come to our shores. But if ever darating we can cope with it just like with Covid-19,” he added.
The World Health Organisation said omicron has spread to nearly 38 countries, but no deaths have yet been reported.
