Several PDP-Laban stalwarts are allegedly planning to bolt the party to support the candidacy of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno following Senator Bong Go’s announcement he will no longer run for president.
Moreno’s campaign manager, Lito Banayo, said it was only “natural” for PDP-Laban members to consider other presidential aspirants in the wake of Go’s withdrawal.
“I have to be honest in admitting na marami-rami na ring PDP-Laban stalwarts calling us up and saying they are switching to us since Senator Bong Go is no longer in the running,” he said on One News’ “The Chiefs” Thursday (December 2).
Banayo said he will welcome PDP-Laban members who will support Moreno’s candidacy. The ruling party is chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Politics, after all, is addition. Lalo na masyadong malaki ang margin ni former senator Marcos. So siyempre, any help is welcome,” he said.
Go’s withdrawal from the presidential race, though not yet formalized, has left the administration without any standard bearer to endorse.
Moreno said he will welcome Duterte’s endorsement.
