Elderly people now allowed to leave their homes, work during coronavirus lockdown – IATF

By Prince Golez

Senior citizens will be allowed to go out to obtain essential goods or for work permitted in industries and offices during the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and general community quarantine (GCQ), Malacañang announced.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque presented Resolution No. 30 of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases during his virtual presser on Thursday.

“Any person below 21 years old, those who are 60 years old and above, those with immunodeficiency, comorbidities, or other health risks, and pregnant women, including any person who resides with the aforementioned, shall be required to remain in their residences at all times, except when indispensable under the circumstances for obtaining essential goods and services or for work in permitted industries and offices,” said Roque.

Lawmakers earlier appealed to the national government to reconsider the ban on elderly people and allow them to do their errands and work.

Under the GCQ guidelines previously issued by the IATF, persons 20 years and below and 60 years old and above, including those with health risk factors, are instructed to remain home.
