Pwede nang magsimba! Government allows work meetings, religious activities in GCQ areas

By Prince Golez

The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases has allowed work gatherings and religious activities in areas under general community quarantine (GCQ).

This was announced by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque as he read the guidelines for IATF Resolution No. 30 in an online presser on Thursday.

Social distancing rules, however, must still be followed during these events, said Roque.

“Essential work gatherings and religious activities may continue so long as strict distancing, defined as the strict maintenance of at least two meters distance between and among those attending, and the mandatory wearing of face mask, face shield, or other facial protective equipment by attendees, is maintained during the entirety of the event,” the resolution read.

Thursday, last week, President Rodrigo Duterte put provinces and cities outside Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and other “high-risk” areas under the GCQ starting May 1.

Under this quarantine measure, public transportation may operate at a reduced capacity and certain services will be allowed to operate subject to minimum health standards.
