Duterte: No PhilHealth OFW rates hike for now

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte issued a directive to state-owned Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) not to require overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to pay a monthly membership premium equivalent to three percent of their salary, his spokesman said.

OFW contribution payments will be voluntary, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during his virtual presser on Monday.

Earlier, PhilHealth issued Circular No. 2020-0014 requiring OFWs with a monthly income of P10,000 to P60,000 to pay three percent of their salaries per month.

The move drew ire on social media.
