Malacañang on Monday congratulated former Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle for his promotion to the rank of cardinal-bishop, the highest title of a cardinal in the Catholic Church.
On May 1, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis named Tagle as the newest member of the Order of Bishops within the College of Cardinal.
“Kami po ay binabati ang ating His Eminence Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle sa kanyang pagtatalaga bilang isang Cardinal-Bishop. Ito po ang pinaka-highest title ng isang cardinal sa Simbahang Katoliko,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in his press briefing.
“Ang tagumpay niyo po, Your Eminence, ay tagumpay ng buong sambayanang Pilipino. Maraming salamat sa karangalan and congratulations,” Roque also said.
Last February, Tagle, 62 moved to the Vatican following his appointment as prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.
