The government is taking steps to increase its coronavirus testing capacity, according to Malacañang.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement, in response to Senator Sherwin Gatchalian’s comment that mass testing for the virus has been slow in the Philippines.
“Unang-una hindi ko madi-dispute na medyo hindi natin nakamit ang goal na by April 30 merong 8,000 na daily testing ang (Department of Health), na delay tayo,” Roque said in a virtual presser Monday.
“Pero, one thing that I can assure, we are taking steps to increase testing capacity. Kaya nga po tinalaga si (Bases and Conversion Development Authority President) Vince Dizon as 3T (Test Trace Treat) czar. Dahil dito dumadami na ang ating faciltiies to conduct testings,” he explained.
According to the Palace official, the Philippines now has 28 testing centers for the coronavirus disease, including the four mega swabbing facilities.
“We are aiming to eventually achieve 30,000 daily tests using (polymerase chain reaction). Bukod pa ito dun sa proyekto ng pribadong sektor yung Project ARK and they envision at least1 million rapid test kits to be utilized on their employees as well as on the residents na nakapaligid sa kanilang negosyo,” Roque concluded.
