Palace: ECQ extension possible if COVID cases surge in GCQ areas

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang expressed the possibility of further extending the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) once an increase in the number of coronavirus cases will be observed in areas placed under general community quarantine (GCQ).

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier extended the ECQ in Metro Manila and other high-risk provinces and cities to May 15 to contain the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19). Several areas with low to moderate risk were also downgraded to GCQ.

The official cited the case of Singapore, whose efforts to contain the disease previously earned praise from the World Health Organization, where the number of infections from migrant workers has seen a dramatic spike late last month.
