‘A true story about COVID-19:’ China embassy in Manila spreads Lego animation mocking Trump slow response to coronavirus pandemic

Toys are now being used in the propaganda battle between China and the United States about the coronavirus pandemic.

China has released a propaganda video to mock the United States led by President Donald Trump for its slow response to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

The Lego-like animation, titled “Once Upon a Virus” running less than two minutes, was shared online by the Chinese embassy in Manila.

“A true story about COVID-19 told by Legos,” the embassy tweeted, sharing the video.

In the animation earlier posed by Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua, Lego-like figures representing China and the United States traded barbs over the coronavirus, placed Beijing’s in a good light, and mocked US for downplaying the severity of the illness.

The video starts with a Lego-like terracota warrior warning another figure in the form of the statue of Liberty about the discovery of the virus last December.

“We discovered a new virus,” the warrior wearing a mask says.

“So what?” the Liberty statue replies. “It’s only a flu.”

The Liberty statue continued to dismiss the warrior’s warnings until it starts to look ill and gets hooked up to an intravenous drip.

The video ends with the Liberty figure saying, “We are always correct, even though we contradict ourselves.”

The warriors replies: “That’s what I love about you Americans, your consistency.”
