Philippine National Police chief General Archie Gamboa said there was no violation of social distancing protocols during the birthday celebration of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Major General Debold Sinas, despite photos showing otherwise.
Gamboa on Tuesday (May 12) bucked at the observation that cops held a birthday party for Sinas at Camp Bagong Diwa, even if photos posted on NCRPO’s Facebook page showed there was a cake, balloons and food at the May 8 event.
“Walang party ang nangyari, ang sabi ni General Sinas. Probably nagkaroon ng mañanita, pero doon sa mañanita, ang sabi ni General Sinas, is inobserve pa rin nila ang social distancing. I don’t think may violation ito,” he said.
A mañanita is an early birthday morning serenade. Mass gatherings are banned while Metro Manila is under enhanced community quarantine.
Gamboa said he “will look into it” as there’s no excuse for Sinas “not to follow simple health protocols.”
One of the photos posted on Facebook showed Sinas without a mask blowing the candles on his birthday cake. Other pictures showed the cops sitting close to one another around tables as they ate, in violation of the protocol on social distancing.
Health experts have advised maintaing a distance of six feet from other people to minimize the risk of catching COVID-19.
NCRPO’s Facebook post on Sinas’ birthday celebration was no longer available as of Wednesday, May 13.
