Senator Risa Hontiveros is taking a stand against the apparent culture of victim blaming.
Victim blaming is the disturbing tendency to blame the victim of rape or any crime instead of the perpetrator.
In her latest post on Facebook, Hontiveros trained her sights on the would-be sexual offenders, telling them not to commit rape.
“I am re-posting this. Let me share again an effective anti-rape tip: HUWAG KANG MANG-RAPE,” the senator said.
Hontiveros told people thinking of potential sexual assault to fight the urge and not to go through with it.
“Kung iniisip mong mang-rape, awatin mo ang sarili mo. Sa panahong sa tingin mo ay gusto mong mang-rape, pigilan mo ang sarili mo, at HUWAG MANG-RAPE,” she said.
The latest comments of the senator came after the Lucban, Quezon police posted a social media message on apparent victim-blaming. The police suggested that women should not wear skimpy clothes to avoid harassment.
