Palace: Gov’t not using coronavirus crisis to implement jeepney phaseout

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Thursday denied that the government is using the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic to phase out traditional jeepneys.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque rejected claims that they are taking advantage of the health crisis to implement the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.

He was reacting to the reported threat of jeepney drivers to burn their vehicles in the streets should the government decide to permanently ban their operations.
